Template-aware sizing - selecting a 2-column template (IEEE, CVPR, ACM…) automatically uses table* for wide tables and \resizebox for extremely wide ones. Single-column documents (NeurIPS, memoir, thesis) use \textwidth as the limit.

Inline mode - use when you need the table to appear at an exact point in your text, not floating. Good for short tables in single-column theses or reports.
